Intermediate student attempts suicide

She was reportedly chided by her lecturer and principal for not taking an exam

HYDERABAD: An Intermediate student attempted suicide allegedly after her lecturer and principal chided her for refusing to appear for an exam at Malakpet on Wednesday.

The Malakpet police registered a case against 17-year-old Sneha of Annie Besant College in Dilsukhnagar under Section 309 (suicide attempt) of IPC. Another case under Sections 504 (intentional insult) and 509 (word, gesture intended to insult modesty of woman) of the IPC was registered against lecturer Neeraja and principal Satyanarayana.

A resident of Nagole, Sneha did not go to the college on Tuesday.

She went to college on Wednesday but refused to take an internal exam, pleading she was not prepared. This led to an argument between her and the lecturer who reportedly chided her.

On learning about the issue, the principal also scolded the student accusing her of intentionally avoiding the exam, Malakpet ACP Suhas Chaturvedi said. Later, the principal called up her parents. While speaking to her mother on phone, Sneha started crying and said she wanted to return home immediately.

A few minutes later, she came out of the college, bought insecticide, consumed it and sat in a bakery.

A relative who was passing by noticed her and she told him that she had consumed insecticide and fell unconscious.

The relative shifted her to a private hospital. She is recuperating but has been kept under observation for 48 hours.
