City pilgrim found robbed, murdered

BANGALORE: A woman from Bangalore was murdered and robbed of her gold jewellery at a dormitory in Sri Ghati Subrahmanya, a pilgrim centre in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural district, on Tuesday. The police gave her name as Nagalakshmi (30), a resident of Allalasandra, off Yelahanka, on Bellary Road. Around 3 p.m., a woman known to Nagalakshmi reportedly came to her house and made her to accompany her to Sri Subrahamanya temple at Ghati.

The two women took a room at a dormitory. Around 7 p.m., the dormitory staff found that the room was locked. When they peeped through the window, they found a woman lying on the floor with a wire tied around her neck. When they broke open the door, they found that the woman had been strangled. During investigations, the police identified the woman as Nagalakshmi and found that the assailants had made away with her gold chain and a pair of earrings.

Robbed

A four-member gang stabbed a man in the abdomen and robbed him of two mobile phones in Hennur police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said that around 9 p.m., Vinayak Kautekar, an employee of an oil company, was walking towards his house in HRBR Layout. While he was answering a call of nature near the Forest Department office on Hennur Service Road, four men cornered him and tried to snatch cash and valuables from him. When he resisted, they stabbed him with a knife and snatched two mobile phones from him.

Burgled

Burglars struck at a garage owner’s house in Tilaknagar police station limits and looted Rs. 1.50 lakh cash and gold jewellery worth the same amount. The police said the theft took place between Monday midnight and 8 a.m. on Tuesday at Syed Ali’s house on 30th A Cross, Tilaknagar.

Killed in accident

A woman was killed on the spot after a lorry rammed her scooter on National Highway 4 in Peenya traffic police station limits on Wednesday. The police said the accident occurred around 8.30 a.m. while Seema (30) was on her way to drop her son at his school. The boy had a miraculous escape, the police said. Seema was a resident of Channanayakanahalli on Tumkur Road.

Bomb hoax

Work was affected for some time at a garment factory in Peenya police station limits on Wednesday following a bomb scare. The police said that around 9.45 a.m. the receptionist of the factory, situated at TVS Cross in 2nd Stage, Peenya, received an anonymous call that a bomb has been planted at the unit. On being informed, the police conducted sabotage checks. The call turned out to be a hoax.

Fake tax official held

The Viveknagar police have arrested a driver of the Commercial Tax Department, who was allegedly fleecing shopkeepers by impersonating himself as a Commercial Tax officer. The police said the driver, Anand Christraj, had created a fake identity card in the name of Commercial Tax Officer Rajendra Prasad, who worked in the same office, by affixing his photograph. Using the card, he had threatened and fleeced money from six shopkeepers in Viveknagar and Koramangala, the police said. When he approached businessman Saifullah on Monday, he suspected the credentials of the person and lodged a complaint with the police and this led to the arrest of Anand.
