CPI (M) launches ‘chaitanya ratham’

Staff Reporter

Party activists raise slogans

‘Padayatra’ in Jerrila area today

MAKAVARAPALEM (VISAKHAPATNAM DT.): CPI (M) district secretary Ch. Narsinga Rao on Wednesday accused the State Government of resorting to arm-twisting methods to acquire land from people in 13 villages in the mandal under the pretext of setting up an industrial park and later allot it on a platter to Ras Al-Khaimah (RAK) for its proposed alumina refinery.

Launching ‘chaitanya ratham’ against bauxite mining and refinery at Ramannapalem amid slogans like ‘bauxite mining maaku voddu babu’ (we don’t want bauxite mining), he wondered why the government was hiding facts from the public and resorting to forcible acquisition under the garb of public interest to offer it to RAK, a kingdom of United Arab Emirates. Mr. Narasimha Rao alleged that the Congress and some TDP leaders had joined hands to weaken the agitation against the bauxite project and asked people to remain firm and not to accept the acquisition notices.

He also took strong exception to threats by officials and Congress leaders to acquire lands even without the consent of farmers and others under whose occupation the lands exist.

The party will undertake a ‘padayatra’ in Jerrila area in the agency on Friday to protest against granting of mining permission by the Ministry of Mines to APMDC to extract bauxite ore.
