MP calls for filling vacancies at museum
Staff Reporter
Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha member P. Madhu has called for filling of vacancies in the Salar Jung Museum for its better functioning.
In a letter addressed to SJM Board chairman and Governor N.D. Tiwari, he suggested appointment of a special committee with powers to administer changes in the look of the museum and to address the plight of the employees.
60 posts vacant
The museum has 211 sanctioned posts but 60 posts were vacant. Besides, 90 persons have been working as daily wagers for the last 15 years discharging the duties of permanent employees at meagre remuneration. “Categorisation of services of these employees has to be done on a scientific basis and they are to be re-designated,” Mr. Madhu said.
He further stated that some of galleries and sections in the museum like laboratory, MSS and library were badly maintained for want of space and manpower. “I understand that a few exhibits went missing in the course of time,” Mr. Madhu said.
