ORR officials deploy watch and ward staff

M.L.Melly Maitreyi

HYDERABAD: The Outer Ring Road project authorities have deployed watch and ward staff in Survey No. 300 of Poppalguda village where a ‘private pond’ exists.

The said pond has now become the bone of contention between the petitioner Jayabheri Group, which says it is a natural water body, while HUDA/ORR authorities all along have maintained that it is an artificially dug-up private pond.

The survey numbers 291, 298, 299 and 300 in Poppalguda village came under scanner when the Supreme Court directed the Central Water Commission to depute a team to ascertain the presence of the water bodies in these survey numbers on the re-aligned path of ORR phase II. The Apex Court was responding to a petition filed by Jayabheri Group which appealed against High Court judgment that went in favour of HUDA.

Realignment objected

It may be recalled that Jayabheri Group had filed the writ in the High Court objecting to the re-alignment of ORR citing presence of water bodies in the above survey nos. However the HUDA/ORR authorities contended that there were no notified water bodies but only feeder channels in disuse in the said survey nos. The CWC team after its inspection of the survey numbers recently, in its report, noted the dried-up feeder channels of ‘Phirangi Nala’ in survey nos. 219, 298 and 299 but mentioned about the existence of a pond in survey no.300.

The ORR authorities, on the other hand, submitted that a privately dug-up tank with pumped water could not be passed off as a water body for public use. Meanwhile, the work on the 62-km ORR Phase II A from Shamshabad to Pedda Amberpet and Narsingi to Patancheru is going on except in the stretches of Poppalguda, Srinagar (Mankhal) Ravariyal where status quo orders are in force. Work is in progress in Kollur, Vatinagulapally, Patighanpur, Hamidullanagar, Thondupalli, Shamshabad, Bonguluru, Amberpet, Koheda, Mangalapalli villages.
