Former MLA dead

CHENNAI: T.K. Kapali, two-time Member of Legislative Assembly of the Mylapore constituency, died on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 78. He is survived by six sons and two daughters.
Kapali was elected from Mylapore in 1977 on a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ticket and three years later, as a candidate of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1980, he defeated Nanjil K. Manoharan of the DMK, who had just then left the AIADMK. Between 1959 and 1968, he was a councillor of the Chennai Corporation.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi expressed his condolences. Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu and Member of Parliament Kanimozhi were among those who paid homage to Kapali.
