BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Wednesday ferreted out Rs. 30 crore worth assets following raids on an IAS officer, two Chief Engineers, three Executive Engineers, a Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, a Medical Superintendent and five Transport Department officials. The assets were far above their known sources of income, said Lokayukta officials. The raids were conducted simultaneously in Bangalore Urban and Rural districts, Haveri, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Chitradurga and Davangere. Second raidThis is the second time during the last few months that the Lokayukta police have carried out such an exercise. The officials booked are V. Chandrashekar, who is awaiting posting as Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot; Bisegowda, Chief Engineer of National Highways, Bangalore; Guruprasad, Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Bijapur; Ismathulla Khan, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Bangalore; G.R. Chandrashekarappa, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Shimoga; V. Venkatashiva Reddy, Executive Engineer, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, South Division; Subbegowda, Executive Engineer, Karnataka Water Supply and Drainage Board, Mandya; Ramalingegowda, Medical Superintendent, Mandya General Hospital; K. Ashok, Regional Transport Officer, Chikmagalur; Hemanth Kumar, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Chitradurga; Nanjundaiah, MVI, Koppal; D.C. Manjegowda, MVI, Bijapur, who is on deputation to Hassan; and Yoga Ramesh, MVI, Koppal. Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) R.K. Datta said the raids were conducted after a tip-off. The sleuths found most of the officials having properties in Bangalore. IAS Officer Chandrashekar has two houses and two sites, in Chandra Layout and Rajarajeshwarinagar, and a house in his father-in-law’s name. He also runs the Sai Hospital in Vijayanagar. While his total legitimate income is Rs. 55 lakh, he is worth around Rs. 4 crore. Chief Engineer Guruprasad owns houses in Jayanagar, Koramangala, BSK 2nd Stage and J.P. Nagar.
