Viva Kerala draws with Sporting Clube

KOZHIKODE: There were no thrills. There were no goals either, as Viva Kerala and Sporting Clube de Goa played out a disappointing draw in the ONGC I-League in front of a decent crowd at the Corporation Stadium here on Wednesday.

While it was just the continuation of a poor season for the Goan side, more was expected from the home team, which had been playing exceptionally well on its debut in India’s premier football league.

Having said that, Viva’s disappointing show on Wednesday wasn’t entirely unexpected, since it was playing without its key player, Wisdom Abbey.

Viva missed not merely his striking power up front, but his skills in organising the team’s attacks as well. Sporting remains at the bottom of the 10-team league with three points, while Viva is still placed fourth with nine points. All the teams have now played six games apiece. — Principal Correspondent
