Verma in the lead

KOLKATA: A card of two-under par 70 enabled Gagan Verma to lead on the first day of the Goodricke Eastern India Open golf tournament, an event of the LG Indian amateur golf tour, at the RCGC here on Wednesday.

Sanjeev Mehra was second at 71 and H.S. Kang was third with 72.

The trio of Simarjeet Singh, Tarun Gogale and Abhishek Jha were tied for the fourth spot at two-over 74.

The six-day tournament will see the strokeplay format in the first two days.

The top 64 will then get involved in matchplay to decide the ultimate winner.

The scores (after 18 holes): 70-Gagan Verma; 71-Sanjeev Mehra; 72-H.S. Kang; 74-Simarjeet Singh, Tarun Gogale and Abhishek Jha. — Special Correspondent
