MOHALI: Punjab turned the tables on Orissa on an action-packed third day of the Ranji Trophy Super League here on Wednesday. Despite conceding a 98-run first innings lead, the home side fought back through V.R.V. Singh. The Punjab fast-medium bowler returned figures of five for 25 to help dismiss Orissa for 76 in its second innings. Gagandeep Singh chipped in with three wickets. The Orissa captain Shiv Sunder Das top-scored with 45; the next highest score was 15. Requiring 175 for victory, Punjab reached 117 for two before close. Sunny Sohal (44) and Ravi Inder (47 batting) added 67 for the second wicket after Orissa broke through in the eighth over. Easy for SaurashtraIn the match at Nagothane, Saurashtra defeated Maharashtra by eight wickets. Rakesh Dhurv took five for 37 as Maharashtra was bowled out for 182 in its second innings, leaving Saurashtra a target of 66. Uttar Pradesh completed an innings win over Bengal at Kolkata in another match. Sudeep Tyagi (four for 38) and Praveen Gupta (five for 11) ensured UP took the bonus point. At Kolkata: Bengal 149 and 193 in 64.3 overs (Anustup Majumdar 60, Laxmi Ratan Shukla 41, Sudeep Tyagi four for 38, Praveen Gupta five for 11) lost to UP 494 in 138.3 overs (R.P. Srivastava 58, S. Raina 63, M. Kaif 91, Piyush Chawla 53, Amir Khan 46, P. Kumar 67, S.S. Paul seven for 113). Points: UP 6, Bengal 0. At Dharamshala: Mumbai 370 v Himachal Pradesh 214 in 67.5 overs (Paras Dogra 42, M. Hussain six for 58) and 236 for five in 87 overs (Manish Gupta 53, Hemant Dogra 47, Paras Dogra 50 batting, Ajay Mannu 42 batting). At Bangalore: Delhi 538 v Karnataka 0 for no loss in 0.1 overs (no play on the third day because of rain). At Nagothane: Maharashtra 136 and 182 in 75.4 overs (Hrishikesh Kanitkar 62, Rakesh Dhurv five for 37) lost to Saurashtra 253 and 68 for two in 31.5 overs. Points: Saurashtra 5, Maharashtra 0.
