KOCHI: For someone who had been operating underground for nearly four decades, Malla Raji Reddy, also known as Sattenna, appeared calm and composed. The top Maoist leader was brought to the Judicial First Class Magistrate II, Aluva, on Wednesday. A special intelligence team of the Andhra Pradesh Police arrested the two near Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly on Monday night. “I was subjected to extreme mental torment by the police during the last 48 hours,” Reddy told the court. He repeated this to presspersons crowded around the police vehicle in which he was seated. Reddy and Suguna were produced before Magistrate Sreekala Suresh by 3.15 p.m., and in hardly 30 minutes, the magistrate asked the police officials to take the accused out of the court room. They were seated in the police vehicle for nearly an hour till remand orders were issued. Presspersons and the local police had been waiting for the high-profile accused to be brought to the court premises since Wednesday morning. By mid-noon, rumours started flying high that the accused might have been taken to Andhra Pradesh without being produced at court here. Phone calls were hurriedly made to all possible connections and nothing was clear for some time. Eventually, it was confirmed that the accused were at the police club in the city and had left for the magistrate court.
