In her capacity as Visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, President Pratibha Patil recently gave her approval for creation of two new faculties on the campus. Ms. Patil assented to amendment of the existing Statute 17 of the Jamia Millia Islamia Act, 1988, for creation of a Faculty of Fine Arts. Until now the Department of Fine Arts existed under the Faculty of Education.
It will now be a full-fledged faculty in its own right. A further amendment to Clause (3) of Statute 20 has also been approved by the President for addition of the following new departments in the newly created Faculty of Fine Arts: the Departments of Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art, Art Education, Graphic Art and Art History and Art Appreciation. The President has also given her assent for creation of a Faculty of Dentistry. With this, the number of faculties at Jamia Millia has gone up to nine from the existing seven. Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College celebrated its 47th Annual Day early this week and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit graced the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental was the guest of honour.
