Artists Society announces contest

PUDUCHERRY: The Pondicherry State Artists Society is at it once again. It is organising a competition using candles and oil lamps on December 27.

According to a press release from society president A.B. Ibert, the competition would be held at Irudhaya Andavar Church (Sacred Heart Church) opposite the railway station, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We will provide a 3 ft x 3 ft space and an hour’s time to draw the outline of any design in chalk and arrange the candles or lamps on the design. Those who cannot memorise the designs can bring the designs drawn on paper and can draw from that. The objective of the competition is to arrange the lights in such a way that the design looks beautiful,” he said.

The designs that you choose can be that of flowers, kolams, different patterns, faces of leaders, images of Gods, just about anything will do so long as it looks beautiful when the lights are light. Participants must bring the lamps, oil and wicks or candles and matchboxes to the competition.

Applications can be had from Vidya Medicals on M.G. Road and Sun Paper Mart on Kosakada Street and Venkatesa Jewellery.

The last date for submitting the filled-in applications is December 25. As soon as the competition is over, a panel of judges will look at the creations, of which the best 20 will be chosen and given prizes.

All the participants of the competition will get participation certificates.
