Towards better communication: Students of Loyola College present a skit at the event in Chennai on Tuesday. CHENNAI: Twenty colleges from across the State participated in a one-minute film contest held by Loyola College’s Department of Visual Communication. The programme was an effort to reintroduce the cultural values lost in the use of myriad modern communication tools. “We gave out invitations to 80 colleges, but only 20 responded and sent in 30 entries,” said a professor of the college. An event to screen the shortlisted entries and distribute the ‘Reelive Awards 2007’ for the best films was held here on Tuesday. It was inaugurated with an abstract theatre presentation about how modern communication tools, such as the mobile phone telephone and television. Film director S.P. Muthuraman and editor Lenin participated in the inauguration, along with college principal Albert Muthumalai and vice-principal John Prakasam. Students presented their video films, which were then evaluated by a panel of judges. The prizes to the best presentations were given away by former students of the department.
