The endeavour is aimed at helping prospective filmmakers express themselves. This Christmas vacation, Orthic Creative Centre is inviting young people to join the expedition to the world of colours that go beyond palette and canvas. A digital filmmaking workshop is being planned this time. The concept is to introduce youngsters to the basics of filmmaking and lend a helping hand for the prospective filmmaker in them to come out and express themselves. “At the end of the camp, participants will be shooting and editing their own films of 1 to 2 minutes duration. This could be screened either here or Cochin Film Society, or at film clubs of their schools or colleges,” said T. Kaladharan, whose palette never runs dry of ideas for nurturing young talents. The crash course on digital filmmaking, as it is planned at Orthic, seems to cover almost every aspect of the art – right from start. It introduces the participants to the art before going to the shift from celluloid to digital filmmaking. Then it deals with conceptualising, script and screenplay writing, planning the production, nuances of art direction, cinematography and lighting, and the art of directing a film. Post production magic like editing, dubbing, sound effects, music and special effects will follow. Ad-filmmaker Jabbar Kallarakal will be course director and many famous names in the industry like writer John Paul, cinematographers Sunny Joseph and S. Kumar and artist C.S. Jayaram will drop in to lead classes. Admission is open to students aged between 12 and 20. “The maximum number of participants we can have is 25, beyond which it will not be possible to give attention to individual participant. It often happens in painting classes that are too crowded,” said Mr. Kaladharan. Participants will also get a chance to interact with leading filmmakers and also get introduced to classic films. The course is being held at Orthic Creative Centre and Adhyapaka Bhavan at Karikkamuri from December 26 to 31. Those interested should contact the Orthic Creative Centre at phone numbers 2376489, 98957 12959 or 98954 22282. Orthic is ensuring that some will walk into the New Year with much more colourful frames and compositions in mind.
