Daughter, brother-in-law of JD (S) leader killed in accident

Chitradurga: Amita (11), daughter of Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former administrator of the Murugha Math S.K. Basavarajan, and Dinesh (23), his brother-in-law, died in an accident here on Thursday. The accident took place near Malappanahatti area in the city. According to police, Dinesh was taking Amita to school on a motorcycle when a speeding lorry travelling towards Holalkere hit them.Amita died on the spot. Dinesh who was critically injured was taken to Basaveshwar hospital. He was referred to a hospital in Bangalore but he died on the way. Amita’s body was kept in SJM medical college for the autopsy. It was later brought to her house at BVSK layout. Dinesh’s body was also brought there.

Hundreds of supporters, well-wishers and political leaders of various parties had gathered outside the college and Mr. Basavarajan’s house to offer their condolences.

Sources said that the last rites would be performed at Mr. Basavarajan’s village, Sondekola in Chitradurga taluk.
