Safeguarding culture: Folk artistes participating in a jatha organised at Nippani in Belgaum district on Thursday as part of the ‘Suvarna Bhavaekyate Samskrutika Sambhrama’ programme. Nippani (Belgaum District): The “Suvarna Bhavaekyate Samskrutik Sambhrama” programme aimed at promoting cultural harmony and strengthening national integration, organised here on Thursday evoked a good response. A large number of people participated in “Janapada vahini” organised the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture. Folk artistes and members of cultural organisations, school and college students, and social workers participated in the programme. RallyDeputy Commissioner M.E. Shivalingamurthy inaugurated the cultural rally by garlanding the portrait of Goddess Bhuvaneshvari. Later, a function was organised at the KLE Society’s G.I. Bagewadi College premises. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Sri Allam Prabhu Swamiji of Chinchani Siddha Math and heads of various government departments.Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad, who inaugurated the function, emphasised the need for cultural harmony in border areas. RoleIntellectuals, writers, social workers and artistes played an important role in this regard, she said. Several social workers were felicitated on the occasion. The Belgaum Zilla Panchayat president, Nazir Ahmed Nadaf, presided over the function.
