Manmohan Singh to launch Goa’s broadband connectivity programme

Special Correspondent

Prime Minister will visit the State for two days from December 27

State Cabinet to interact with the Prime Minister

Memorandum on Mahadayi water dispute to be submitted to him

PANAJI: The Goa Government is planning to launch its ambitious broadband connectivity programme aimed at e-governance when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the State for two days from December 27.

The Prime Minister will participate in the annual convocation of Goa University on December 28.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said here on Tuesday that the State Government was planning to hold an interaction of the State Cabinet with the Prime Minister during which a presentation on State’s finances would be made. Goa was working on a proposal to get tourism-specific special status for the State where it would seek a one-time funding towards developing tourism infrastructure.

The State would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister on the contentious Mahadayi water dispute between Goa and Karnataka to bring to his notice the feelings of Goans over the issue, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said that Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues would take up with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh the issue of controversial dam across the Virdi being built by Maharashtra. Goa had objected to the action of Maharashtra to move the site of construction of dam by 3 km. This would be brought to the notice of Mr. Deshmukh. Mr. Kamat said that he would take up the issue with his Maharashtra counterpart and others concerned during the meeting of Chief Ministers convened by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Thursday.
