Constables recruited this year to join duty on January 1 Personnel asked to achieve professional standards
Setting the agenda: Additional DGP (APSP) M. Alagar addressing the personnel at the passing out parade in Kakinada on Thursday. — Kakinada: The State Government will appoint some 14,000 police constables in the first phase of the recruitment drive announced recently and a good number of them will be tribal youths joining the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP). “Steps are being taken to recruit a total of 37,000 constables in the coming years. The APSP has been strengthened with the recruitment of 3,400 constables this year and they will start discharging duties from the New Year (January 1),” Additional Director-General of Police (APSP) M. Alagar told media persons here on Thursday after reviewing the passing out parade of 256 APSP trainee constables of the 3rd and 15th battalions. Tribal battalionMr. Alagar said, at least 1,100 of the newly recruited APSP constables were tribal youths set to join the newly sanctioned tribal battalion. These youths had proved their mettle at major events like the World Military Games, where they maintained law and order as part of their training. Asked what the APSP was doing to cope with the spurt in Maoist activities, Mr. Alagar replied that the APSP was meant to render logistical support to the police like protecting the police stations and deploying road-opening parties. “As it (APSP) does not fight the Maoists directly, it is appropriate to put the question to the Superintendents of Police,” he quipped. Earlier, addressing the APSP constables and their families at APSP parade grounds, Mr. Alagar said the APSP constables should be physically and mentally fit to face the future challenges as their job was fraught with risks. They should strive to achieve professional standards in discharging their duties. He said there were several instances of APSP constables abstaining from duties without permission. Such dereliction of duty would not be tolerated, he said, and warned them to not take to vices in the course of their duties, which was harmful to health and affect the families. APSP 3rd Battalion Commandant M.C. Warren expressed confidence that the new appointees would help the police in liquidating Maoists who were posing serious threat to society. Eluru Range DIG of Police Hasan Reza congratulated the constables and their families for joining the noble cause of protecting the country from internal strife. East Godavari district Additional SP A.V. Ranganath and others were present.
