Rain lashes Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri districts

Precautionary measures taken to prevent breaching of tanks

Krishnagiri: Heavy rain lashed various parts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts on Thursday with Uthangarai recording a high of 105.8 mm.

The average rainfall recorded in other areas in the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday is as follows:

Krishnagiri 80 mm, Nedungal 92.6 mm, Denkanikottai 37 mm, Anchetti 25 mm, Rayakottai 56.6 mm, Thally 38 mm, Hosur 46 mm, Shoolagiri 79 mm, Bargur 77.2 mm, and Barur 15.5 mm.

The average rainfall recorded in Dharmapuri district is as follows: Harur 85.20 mm, Pappireddipatti 72 mm, Palacode 70 mm, Dharmapuri 48 mm, Pennagaram 39 mm.

Storage level

The storage level in the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project has touched 51 feet as against the full reservoir level of 52 feet.

The storage level in other major reservoirs is as follows: Kelavarapalli 42 feet, Thoppaiyar – 44.26 feet, Vaaniyar 60.35 feet. Out of a total of 165 PWD tanks in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, about 49 tanks are brimming with storage.

Sand bags

Public Works Department sources pointed out that as a precautionary measure, adequate sand bags had been placed at all major tanks and water bodies in the district to prevent breaching.
