NEW DELHI: Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, led a group of Congress leaders and residents of unauthorised colonies and farmers to the residence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday to thank her for enhancing threefold the compensation for agricultural land in Delhi. The delegation also included Ms. Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit, Member of Parliament from East Delhi; Trans-Yamuna Development Board chairman Narendra Nath; Leader of Opposition in Municipal Corporation of Delhi Jai Kishan Sharma; and a number of MLAs and municipal councillors. Addressing the delegation, Ms. Dikshit said the decision to enhance the compensation for agricultural land and the ongoing process of regularisation of unauthorised colonies had been taken in public interest. Ms. Dikshit also justified the decision in view of the rise in prices of land and inflation. The Chief Minister also expressed confidence that regularisation of colonies would usher in an era of urban and planned development. She also assured people that their suggestions in respect of compensation of agricultural land and ongoing process of regularisation would be suitably considered and placed before the Delhi Cabinet. Mr. Sajjan Kumar lauded the decision taken by Ms. Dikshit on regularisation of colonies and undertaking development activities there and termed it as one in line with the policy of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Lauding Ms. Dikshit’s work, he said Delhi had witnessed all-round development during her tenure.
