MANGALAGIRI: Their skills matched with steely determination as the newly inducted constables of the Tribal Battalion displayed their prowess at the passing out parade held on Thursday on the 6th Andhra Pradesh Special Police Battalion premises in Mangalagiri. Whether exhibiting their skill in martial art or performing dare devil acrobatic exercises, the men in the tribal battalion showed that they were not inferior to any other battalion. Battalion commandant V.C. Sajjanar said that out of 3,500 constables recruited by the State Government, 298 have been given training for nine months on the battalion premises. “The induction was gradual. We acclimatized them to local conditions and took them to places of interest in Guntur and Vijayawada before training them,” Mr. Sajjanar told The Hindu. The State Government had relaxed the minimum qualification to a pass in class seven and relaxed the measurements of minimum height to 165 cm Training moduleThe training modules included, commando training, learning important clauses of Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Constitution. Training in basic communication skills was also given. Some of the men like Banotu Ravindar, who lived in a remote hamlet before being selected to the battalion expressed the desire to write Civil Services.
