Implement panel report: Chennithala

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala has called upon the government to take immediate steps to implement the recommendations of Justice Paripoornan Commission, constituted to inquire into the affairs of the Travancore Devaswom Board, in a time-bound manner.

Mr. Chennithala was talking to reporters at Sabarimala, during his pilgrimage to the Ayyappa Temple on Thursday.

‘Protect sanctity’

He said the recommendations of the Commission were key to preserving the pristine glory of Sabarimala and protecting the sanctity of Ayyappa shrine.

Mr. Chennithala said it must be ensured that administration of places of worship is entrusted to believers alone.

He said the government should see to it that its nominees to the Devaswom Board were believers as well as reputed persons with strict discipline, ethical principles and transparent values.

On ‘aravana’ crisis

The KPCC chief alleged that both the government and the Travancore Devaswom Board were responsible for the ‘aravana’ crisis at Sabarimala and for the “grossly inadequate pilgrim facilities” there.

He said the authorities should have ensured sufficient stock of ‘aravana’ as well as its packing materials before the pilgrim season.
