Lok adalat

MADURAI: The first lok adalat of the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) was inaugurated here on Wednesday.

Presiding over the function R. Karuppiah, Principal District and Sessions Judge, said that judgements of the Indian judiciary were respected widely in foreign countries. But there was also a widespread discontent over the issue of large number of cases piling up without getting resolving in time.

He pointed out that the new forms of media had increased awareness among people of issues related to the judiciary. Mr. Karuppiah said that the lok adalat as an alternative dispute resolving system had become a provider of better solution at a rapid pace.

N. Sadasivam, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, and P. Arivanandam, Deputy General Manager, Indian Bank, were also present .
