Corrections and clarifications

The heading of a New York Times report (“International” page, December 20, 2007) was “U.S. Senate adds $70 b. for Iran, Afghan wars”. It should have been “U.S. Senate adds $70 b. for Iraq, Afghan wars”, as the text said. (The error was in the later editions. The heading in the earlier editions was “U.S. Senate adds $70 billion for wars”.)

The heading of a report (“Business” page, December 19, 2007) was “Trade with China to touch $30 b”, while the first paragraph said that “Going by the present trend, bilateral trade between China and India is likely to touch $40 billion ahead of its targeted schedule in 2010”. The Business desk clarifies that bilateral trade is expected to touch $30 billion by the year-end. The figure $40 billion is forecast for 2010.

In a report “Russia ships nuclear fuel to Iran’s plant” (“International” page, December 18, 2007), the seventh paragraph was “The stalemate was broken when President Vladimir Putin visited Tehran on October 16”, with no explanation in the earlier paragraphs on what the stalemate was. It was an error. The preceding paragraph, with the explanation, had been edited out. It was: “The Bushehr reactor was to have been commissioned in September, but Russia has repeatedly put off fuel delivery citing erratic payments by Iran. At the same time, the Kremlin made it clear it was unhappy with Tehran dragging its feet over opening up its nuclear programme to the IAEA. Moscow also feared a U.S. military attack on Iran’s nuclear installations.”
