Mayawati Govt. to file petition

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government will file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court order quashing the State Advised Price (SAP) for the 2006-2007 crushing season. The SAP for 2006-2007 had been fixed at Rs.130 per quintal for early maturing variety of sugarcane and Rs.125 per quintal for the late variety. Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said the sugar mill owners had assured that the cane price arrears of around Rs.800 crore would be paid to the farmers. This followed a meeting with the mill owners on Thursday, he said.
