Bangalore: For the first time at the Karnataka Golf Association since its inception in 1973, the siren to suspend play during a tournament was blown in the first round of the Global Green Bangalore Open PGTI tournament. Play was suspended briefly for 15 minutes at 3 p.m. and when the rains intensified at 3.45 p.m., the tournament was called off for the day. The decision taken was for the first round to resume at 7 a.m. on Friday with the players who were yet to complete the round to commence from where their ball lay. Only 66 of the 126 strong start list had completed their rounds. The raging debate at the KGA was whether golfers who teed off in the first session (7 a.m. start) had an advantage over the second lot (9 a.m. start). For the record, Feroze Ali Mollah and Gurbaaz Mann with scores of three under 69 each led the field but Rahul Ganapathy (three under after 10 holes) and C. Muniyappa (three under after 15 holes) picked holes in the debate on advantages. Top scores (golfers who have completed first round): Feroze Ali Mollah and Gurbaaz Mann 69; SSP Chowrasia, Himmat Singh Rai and Shamim Khan 70; Rahil Gangjee, Sanjay Kumar, Vinod Kumar and Naman Dawar 71; Ashok Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Shaurya Singh and Gaurav Pratap Singh 72. Amateurs: Raju Vijayvargiya 80; IK Ponappa 85; Rakesh Kumar 87. — Special Correspondent
