First batch of woman drivers receive enquiries from IT sector, executives Demand from the housewives of Gulf who prefer a lady chauffeur from India Sangareddy: Dropping women employees during the night hours would not be troublesome anymore with IT industries and women officers opting for female drivers trained under the first ever women driver training pilot project launched by the Medak District rural development agency (DRDA) in October. The first batch of the 32 member driving programme has been receiving enquiries from the IT sector as well as the women executives who are petrified by the idea of leaving their personal security into the hands of male drivers with dubious criminal records particularly after dark. The first batch of lady drivers would complete their 90 day training by January. DRDA project director Srinivasa Baba told The Hindu that the women drivers were also given lessons in etiquette. The Job district manager of the DRDA here Mr. Hamid who looks after the training added the women were told to brace themselves for the night duties. Even as the demand for women drivers was in the rise locally the DRDA also found demand from the housewives of Gulf who prefer a lady chauffeur from India to a man. So far five women from Medak district have agreed to take up the assignment in Dubai. The DRDA has been spending Rs. 5000 per 8 kilometres of training on each trainee.
