Reaching straight for the heart strings

The calendar brought out by PETA.

Cute pictures and heart rending stories. If you are an animal lover, this is for you. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have put together a calendar for 2008 with pictures of rescued animals and their stories.

The stories are delightfully told and will not just reach straight for the heart strings but are sure to put a smile on the reader’s face and bring on a warm feeling of compassion.

So one story goes… “ One day long-time vegan, PETA supporter and Channel [V] VJ Luke Kenny saw a dog running with a small animal in his mouth. The dog had the animal – which looked like a rat – in his jaws and was shaking him like a rag doll. Luke rescued the rat, who turned out to be a tiny kitten and named him Deebee. Deebee limped a bit at first, but he has since recovered and is now a big healthy cat who bosses about Luke’s other cats.”

Even a beetle earns a place on the line-up, which includes a dog, a bear, a lion and a parrot.

The PETA calendar is available for Rs. 200. For more information, visit www.PETAIndia.com .
