CHENNAI: Writer Shashi Tharoor launched former Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan’s book ‘Encounters’ at The Oxford Bookstore here on Thursday. He described the book as a “collection of portraits.” “He (the author) really enjoys people,” Mr. Tharoor said, complimenting Mr. Sreenivasan on his simple and direct style that bore a touch of diplomacy.

Mr. Sreenivasan said a diplomat enjoyed the pleasures of interacting with people. He said his book was not intended to be a collection of biographies, but rather a record of some elements of the character of luminaries including Kofi Annan, K.R. Narayanan, P.V. Narasimha Rao, Fidel Castro, and Madhavan Kutty. Shashi Tharoor too finds a place in the book. Vijay Eswaran of RYTHM House Publishing said Mr. Sreenivasan had an “ability to walk into another’s mind,” and this skill came through in his writings.
