First semi-conductor design facility to come up at Manipal

Staff Correspondent

It is being set up by Axiom Design Automation India

Axiom has such centres in the U.S. and Bangalore

Manipal University will be a partner in

the venture

MANGALORE: Axiom Design Automation India, a semiconductor design solutions company, announced the setting up of a state-of-the-art research and development facility at Manipal, here on Thursday.

The company is all set to more than double its headcount in the region by the end of next year.

Axiom now has three such centres, including one each in the U.S. and Bangalore.

Scope

The Manipal facility will house a team of engineers which will contribute to Axiom’s high-end application-specific integrated circuits design and verification solutions.

With this, Axiom has become the first semiconductor design solution company to set up a facility in the region, according to R. Ravi Shankar, its managing director.

Joint venture

Axiom will partner with Manipal University to develop domain expertise in the area.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Ravi Shankar said the aim of partnering with Manipal University was to empower education in ASIC design and verification by donating tools worth over $ 0.5 million. “We have been organising workshops for faculty members of the Manipal Institute of Technology.

The company intends to partner with more universities for this initiative in future,” Mr. Ravi Shankar said.

Choice

On the reason behind the choice of a tier-II city such as Manipal for their expansion, he said, “With Mangalore as our extended arm, we are set to record over 100 per cent growth in our revenue by next year. Mangalore, with its growing talent base and increasing number of engineering colleges, was an obvious choice for the company. The low infrastructure cost is a good reason for companies to set up facilities in this region.”
