Thiruvananthapuram
For the Citizens: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran inaugurating the Field Measurement Book counter at a function held in the city on Wednesday. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Residents in the Thycaud revenue village will no longer have to run from pillar to post to access details of their landholdings. For them, it is as simple as pressing a few keys on the touch-screen terminal set up at the village office. The technology-assisted village resurvey in Thycaud has resulted in the creation of easy-to-access digital records. The FMB (Field Measurement Book) counter established at the office provides ownership details and sketch of each landholding. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran notified the resurvey records and inaugurated the FMB counter at a function held at the office on Wednesday. Thiruvananthapuram East MLA V. Sivankutty, Mayor C. Jayan Babu, Deputy Mayor V. Jayaprakash, District Collector N. Ayyappan, ward councillors and representatives of residents’ associations were present at the function. The government had taken up the resurvey of the Thycaud village as a pilot project with public participation. The project was completed in a record period of seven months. A coordination committee was set up and a series of ward-level conventions organised. Revenue officials involved in the resurvey used Total Stations and Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment to map the village. The touch screen kiosks were established by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) at the Thycaud village office and the Survey Office at Karamana. The public can access sketches from the two places. Each landholder would be provided with a ‘record of right’ to establish ownership. Every land transaction after the resurvey is to be recorded in the village register using digital technology. Officials said the resurvey records would make it easier to identify encroachments on government land. Citizens can examine the survey records and submit applications and complaints up to January 18, 2008. The FMB counter will function on all days except on Christmas.
