30 detained for damaging property

NEW DELHI: At least 30 people, including three women, were detained by the police on Thursday for damaging public property in Mayapuri here. They were protesting against relocation of a garment factory to Manesar. According to the police, the workers had been allowed to protest some distance away from the factory. However, on Thursday the protesters turned violent and smashed the glass panes of nearby factories and damaged some vehicles. Several workers were injured in the melee and the police had to resort to lathi-charge and use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
