Lokayukta asked to conduct probe

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday referred to the Lokayukta for investigation claims by the State Government that it had spent the cess collected from motorists for the Bangalore Metro Rail, the Chief Minister’s Rural Road Fund and for other infrastructure projects. Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar passed the order while dismissing petitions filed by the Federation of Southern State Goods Vehicle Owners Associations and others challenging a notification by the State levying 10 per sent cess on motor vehicle tax payable on motor vehicles under Section 3-A of the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Taxation Act. — Staff Reporter
