9 girls rescued from van

KANCHEEPURAM: Police rescued nine teenaged girls of Neelamangalam travelling in a van trapped in wild stream in Kiliyar near Madurantakam in the early hours of Thursday.

According to police, the girls in the age group of 18 years were returning home from their workplace at Aalathur near Tiruporur in the van.

When driver Dheenadayalan of Tiruporur was driving the van through a low bridge across the Kiliyar river, the vehicle got trapped in the floodwater flowing four feet above the carriageway. A tipper lorry was brought and all girls were transferred from the van to the lorry .
