BJP for all-party meet on SEZs
HYDERABAD: State BJP president B. Dattatreya on Thursday demanded that the State government convene an all-party meeting on Special Economic Zones and criticised it for acquiring huge chunks of cultivable land for SEZs.
At a press conference here on Thursday, he said that eminent agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan had stated that cultivable land should not be taken for making way to SEZs. But the State government had acquired 47,000 acres and virtually erased the face of 117 villages. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should advice the State not to acquire fertile land, he added.
Referring to Dr. Singh’s warning against the ‘impending problem of food security’ at the NDC meeting, he said the Prime Minister’s actions were not in consonance with what he had spoken.
