Painting exhibition on

Madhukar Hedao explains his work to a visitor at the exhibition.

PUDUCHERRY: Creating breathtaking landscapes and life-like portraits is this father-son duo’s passion. Architects Madhukar Hedao and Prashant Hedao are exhibiting their works comprising portraits, abstracts and landscapes at Gallery Square Circle at Kalakendra in Bharat Nivas Complex in Auroville.

The senior Hedao, inspired by his father to take to the brush, has been in Government service most of his career and has designed landmark buildings such as the Chandigarh Railway Station, Bangalore, Jammu Thavi Railway station and the South Central Railway head quarters in Secunderabad.

“I have always enjoyed various moods of nature and feel the urge to paint its appealing moods — brightness of afternoons, dance of shadows and the dullness of the rainy season. I tried to express this since my early years through landscapes. Also, my experiences in meditation come out as colourful compositions,” says Madhukar, who took up architecture after a teacher suggested that it was a good career option.

For Prashant, who started off by making pencil sketches of cricketers when he was young, his father has been his inspiration. “My inspiration to draw and paint comes from my father from whom I have inherited this art, therefore it reflects a lot of his works and style. I am still growing and hopefully will evolve over time, if I continue to draw and paint. I look at this exhibition as an opportunity to continue to do so.”

He has done portraits of people like Sanjeeva Reddy, Rabindranath Tagore and Albert Einstein in charcoal and in pen and ink.

The exhibition is on till December 22.
