CUTTACK: Scintillating Odissi dance performances by two girls from Japan and Malaysia respectively warmed the chilled evening at the inaugural of the seventh Barabati Nrutyotsaba’ here on Thursday. Organized by city-based Odishi Nrutya Mandal, the festival would liven up the atmosphere for the next six days on an open stage in front of the majestic Barabati fort. Ukia folk dance performance by the artistes from Sambalpur was highly appreciated by the dance lovers of Cuttack. Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare inaugurated the seventh edition of the festival hoping that it would blossom into a premier festival of the country. Applauding rich cultural heritage of the State, the governor said he has been overwhelmed by the cultural diversity of the State. “I have never seen such cultural diversity in any part of the country”, he said adding that dance and music are the languages of the heart. More than 30 troupes comprising nearly 500 artistes from Kerala, Karnataka, Kolkata, Assam, Punjab and New Delhi, including Japanese Odissi dancer Kaori Naka and Malaysian dancer Vadana Chandrasekharam would perform during the seven-day festival, said organising Secretary Guru Ashis Das.
