Thiruvananthapuram: Journalist and filmmaker J. Geetha has been awarded the film fund instituted by the Goteberg International Film Festival (GIFF) to work on her first feature film. Ms. Geetha’s name was selected from over 100 applications received at the Swedish festival with legendary filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, who passed away recently, as honorary president. Ms. Geetha’s proposed film is about three sisters from a particular socio-political milieu, who grow up to be very different from each other. The film deals with what happens when they are drawn together after a crisis. GIFF has chosen six projects for its support. “Getting this fund from Goteberg to develop the script and take it forward is such a great confidence boost,” says Ms. Geetha. Ms. Geetha’s first directorial venture, ‘Woman with a Video Camera’ (2005), was screened at several international film festivals. This was followed by ‘A Short Film about Nostalgia’ (2006).
