‘Adopt modern farm practices’
Staff Reporter
NAMAKKAL: Farmers should adopt modern cultivation practices and accord top priority to quality, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Vice-Chancellor P. Thangaraju has said.
Participating in the Third Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI) here on Tuesday, he highlighted the need for improving the quality of agricultural produce.
Consumers in the globalised economy were giving more importance to quality while making their purchase decisions, he pointed out.
Income
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged farmers to produce value-added products that would help augment their income from farming. He asked them to adopt better post-harvest management techniques to reduce wastage.
He said that the university was offering a number of vocational training programmes for youth to take up self-employment activities.
Entrepreneurs should equip themselves with necessary skills to overcome the business challenges.
