Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Enraged over attack and loot by a group of anti-socials on the campus, over 300 students of Utkal University closed the main gate for a few hours on Friday.

The incidents took place at around 6.30 a.m. on Friday when two miscreants suspected to be from nearby Patharbandha slum attacked Brajabandhu Nayak, a post graduate student of Economics Department and decamped with his wrist watch and money available with him.

Prior to the incident, a milkman was attacked by the same miscreants who snatched away Rs.500 from him. Within 15 to 20 minutes, another attack took place on the campus.

Following the incidents, about 300 students led by Utkal University president Umakant Samal, Manoj Biswal and Chinmay Sahoo laid siege on the main entrance and burnt tyres protesting the attacks on the campus.
