Krishnagiri: The number of fresh fever cases reported in the district is on the increase with more number of patients seeking medical aid at various government and private hospitals.

The serum examination of patients at the Institute of Vector Control and Zoonoses has confirmed two cases of dengue fever and six cases of leptospirosis.

None of the patients reported symptoms of chikungunya.

Poor sanitation

Health personnel have started collecting details of viral fever cases reported in private hospitals in Krishnagiri and Hosur towns.

Poor sanitation is said to be the reason behind the outbreak of fever in Chikaripallam.

Inspite of various preventive measures taken, defecation in the open areas and collection of water from contaminated sources is a matter of grave concern.

Teams constituted

According to Deputy Director Health Services N. Ayyanar rapid response teams comprising a medical officer, health inspector, entomologist and fogging unit have been stationed at all blocks in the district.

Vehicle

A designated vehicle would be stationed at each block, which on receipt of information would rush to the affected villages for medical treatment.

The district administration has initiated fogging operations and anti-larval measures including cleaning up of overhead water tanks and chlorination of drinking water before effecting its supply in all panchayats to prevent the spread of the outbreak.

Situation under control

A senior official pointed out that there was no need for panic and that the situation was well under control.

As of now there is no case of chikungunya reported in Krishnagiri district.

Adequate number of antibiotics have been stocked in the district to meet any emergency.

The district administration has asked the people to consume boiled water only and keep their houses and its surroundings clean.
