POLLACHI: In a rain-related incident, two boys, aged four years, drowned in a pit that was full of rain water at Vaigai Nagar, here on Friday.

The pit, measuring a depth of 6 ft and a height of 7 ft, was dug by a contractor to construct a culvert across the road.

The pit was full of water due to the incessant rain for the last three days.

Gokul, son of Rajendran, and Ratheesh, son of Mahali, here died after they accidentally fell into the pit. Praveen Kumar (7), who had also fallen in the pit, was rescued by the people nearby and rushed to a Coimbatore hospital.

Pollachi East police has registered a case. Pollachi Sub-Collector Vijay Pingale said a proposal had been sent to the Government to provide financial assistance to the parents from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

He said the boys could not identify the pit as the area was covered by water.
