HYDERABAD: As many as 2,836 cases are pending disposal before the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as on November 30 this year. It has achieved a disposal percentage of 88 having settled 21,164 cases of the 24,000 filed since its inception in the 90s. According to officials, 2,637 cases (first appeals), 155 (consumer disputes) and 44 revision petitions are pending, after the disposal of 16,402, 2,328 and 2,434 respectively. The cases filed in the three categories were 19,039, 2,483 and 2,478 respectively. Among the 29 district consumer redressal fora in the State, Adilabad, Chittoor-I, Kadapa, Karimnagar, Krishna-I (at Machilipatnam), Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Prakasam (at Ongole) achieved 99 per cent disposal of cases till November 30 this year. The East Godavari-II (at Rajahmundry) achieved the least percentage of cases (73), having disposed off 474 of the 648 cases filed. Officials told The Hindu that the disposal of cases would be speeded up after Justice Desaraju Appa Rao assumed charge as president of the AP State Commission on December 19. He along with the Law Secretary and the Commissioner of Civil Supplies will select presidents of ten district fora and members (both male and lady) of nine other fora.
