Two held for power theft

NEW DELHI: A special court dealing with electricity-related cases has remanded two persons to judicial custody for 14 days for stealing power.

Charanjeet Singh, landlord of the factory premises housing a mid-sized antenna wire drawing unit, has been arrested. He was booked under an FIR filed by BYPL for stealing 54.4 kW of electricity and failing to pay the fine within stipulated time.

According to the guidelines of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, a power theft bill of Rs.48.5 lakh was raised against the owner of the antenna wire drawing unit, Bobby, and Charanjeet Singh, landlord of the premises, where the unit was housed. However, Bobby is absconding.

In another case, Pashupati, a manufacturer of steel tubes, had been caught stealing 10 kW of electricity, by drawing in directly from BSES mains. A penalty of Rs.5.95 lakh was imposed on the accused.
