Officials told to intensify tax collection

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has called for more alertness on the part of field officials of the Commercial Taxes Department to intensify tax collection in Ernakulam district.

Dr. Isaac on Friday assessed the progress of tax collection at a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners of the Ernakulam and Mattancherry zonal offices.

Ernakulam and Mattanchery tax zones account for half the State’s tax revenue.

The Minister directed to collect the maximum possible tax and settle tax disputes in the remaining three months of the current financial year.

Scrutiny of returns

Dr. Isaac said there would be a perceptible increase in tax revenue through a close scrutiny of the returns filed and the documents accompanying cargoes as envisaged under the “From Walayar to Ernakulam” initiative.
