Raising a demand: BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas courting arrest in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday after inaugurating the party’s ‘jail bharo’ agitation in protest against the rise in prices of essential commodities and the failure to solve the ‘aravana’ problem at Sabarimala. - Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas has charged the government with “insulting and disgracing the people of Kerala” over the question of rice. He was inaugurating the party’s ‘jail bharo’ agitation here in protest against the rise in price of essential commodities on Saturday. “When the price of rice skyrocketed, the Food Minister advised the public to consume two eggs, a glass of milk and chicken instead of rice,” he said, adding that it was strange advice. He contended that the price of rice doubled after the LDF came to power. The rates of other items also increased steeply. To intensify stirHe said that the BJP would take out marches to the jails during the coming week and intensify agitation in the coming days. The march started from the Gandhi Park and ended near the District Jail at Attakulangara where the police stopped it. Some 75 leaders including Mr. Krishnadas courted arrest.
