GUNTUR: District Youth Congress President Dasari Kiran Kumar was sworn in at the party office on Friday. A large contingent of the Youth Congress workers was present on the occasion, which also marked the birthday celebrations of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Tenali Member of Parliament V. Bala Shourie, Repalle M.L.A Deveneni Mallikarjuna Rao, State Youth Congress President T.J.R. Sudhakara Babu and Mahila Congress President Saroja Sudha were present. Earlier, Kiran Kumar was accorded a tumultuous welcome when he arrived in the city. The appointment of Kiran Kumar raked up a controversy in the Youth Congress ranks in the district, with a section of leaders led by Kavati Manohar Naidu pouring their anger by damaging the furniture at the Congress office and later sitting on an indefinite fast for three days. However, they called off the fast after Congress leader Rudraraju Padmaraju assured them that justice would be done to them. In this backdrop, Kiran Kumar chose the birth day of Jagan Mohan Reddy to be sworn as the district party president, giving a clear signal that he had the blessings of Jagan. State Youth Congress President T.J.R. Sudhakara Babu sought to put an end to the controversy by stating that those disillusioned party workers would be rewarded with key posts at State and district-level wings of the party.
