Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Friday that there was no opposition worth the name in the State. Addressing a public meeting at Pundri in Kaithal district, Mr. Hooda said that a few Opposition leaders were now roaming about like “shopkeepers” but when they were in power they did no good for the poor or the traders. He further charged that those leaders who had been criticising the State Government on the issue of lists of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, had in fact, no issue. He said strict instructions had been issued that those who were eligible to fall in the category of BPL families should not be left out. Mr. Hooda claimed that as a result of the unprecedented decisions taken by his regime, all sections of society including farmers, dalits, labourers, traders and employees were satisfied, but there were a few who were not able to digest this “success”. While highlighting the development works undertaken by his government during the last two and a half years, he said he was aware of the power scenario in the State. Power shortageHe attributed the present power shortage to his predecessors who had not taken serious steps to enhance the power generation capacity. Although Haryana came into being 40 years ago, its own generation capacity was 1,587 MW and it was getting an additional 2,000 MW. As against the availability of 4,000 MW, the total consumption was about 6,000 MW which would shoot up to 8,000 MW in the coming years. He reiterated that his regime had initiated several measures to improve power generation and add another 5,000 MW.
