JAIPUR: The organisers of the annual Jaipur Jewellery Show beginning here on Saturday have decided to go in for a repeat of “emerald” as the theme of the event. The four-day show, which has proved a big draw if the number of stall booking is taken into account, will try to promote public awareness on the beauty and qualities of this fascinating stone. The fourth edition of the show held last year also had emerald as its theme. The show has the support of leading jewellery-related organisations such as Diamond Trading Corporation (DTC), Polygon, Tanzanite Foundation, World Gold Council, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council and Platinum Guild. Over 25,000 visitors are expected at the show, which would also host theme-based fashion shows and exhibitions of machinery and books on the subject. The event, to be inaugurated by Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, the London-based World Jewellery Confederation, will also coincide with the Gold Souk Jewellery Awards, being presented on December 23 at the Jaipur Gold Souk premises. Unique stoneThe convenor of the show, leading jeweller Vimal Chand Surana, said an Emerald Support Group had been formed to promote the unique stone which would be highlighted through new books on the subject, posters, competitions and advertisements. Emerald festivals have already been held during the year in Gold Souk Gurgaon and at Jaipur. “The festivals were designed to promote emeralds by way of exposition and sale. They aroused a lot of interest among the customers,” he said. The organisers expressed their satisfaction over the good response from the jewellers for the show. “This time an all-time high booking of 360 stalls has been achieved against 310 stalls last year. Over 90 per cent of them are repeat bookings indicating the success in business and networking at the show,” said Ajay Kala, the spokesperson of the show, adding, “It is a quantum jump from 67 stalls in 2003 when we started.” The participants are coming over from China, Thailand, Dubai, Turkey and the US besides from all over India.
